Everyone seems to be buzzing about Milestone Pizza. This newly opened pizzeria located on Main Street in Thomaston is quickly gaining attention from locals around town, and the food is out of this world.
Owners Jay Tranberg and Frank Jennett were influenced by a number of factors that led them to go into the restaurant business together. Jay has been working making classic New Haven style pizza for about 8 years now. As
a motivated 25 year old, he got his start working in other restaurants in the New Haven area where he learned the ins and outs of the business. This, along with his Italian background, was what ultimately inspired him to branch out on his own 2 years ago.
Frank, who also came from an Italian background grew up cooking fresh meals, and spent most of his life around good food. He developed a passion and love for food, and was inspired by many of his own family recipes. It was always a dream of his to be in the restaurant business, which led him to approach Jay about 2 years ago in 2017 about starting a wood fired pizza business. The two decided to take a chance and go for it, and the business took off. The name “Milestone” comes from Jennett’s business Milestone Marble and Granite located in Thomaston, CT. The business started out last year in 2018 with a pizza truck. The pizza truck was a huge hit, and Jennett and Tranberg worked all summer long doing parties with the truck. It got a tremendous amount of good feedback, and people couldn’t seem to get enough of the delicious wood fired pizza.
The truck was so successful, that Jennett and Tranberg felt the next step was to expand their business, and they began looking into the possibility of opening up a restaurant. Since opening, locals have welcomed Milestone with open arms, and could not be more excited about the new delicious pies that are available to enjoy. Some of the best seller pies that have been flying off the shelf include the plain mozzarella pie, the baked stuffed shrimp pie, the mashed potato and bacon pie, and the Frank’s Favorite, which features grated cheese, red cherry pepper sauce, anchovies, long hots, and onions. All of the ingredients are prepared fresh and in house daily, and nothing is ever store bought and never from a can or jar. From the sauce all of the way to the crust, everything is homemade.
